    Kara Hanaoka, MA, assumed the role of Executive Director at Good Work Austin in July 2024, bringing with her over 13 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Widely recognized as a purpose-driven leader, connector, and strategist, Kara has consistently guided organizations to achieve tangible, transformative outcomes. Her expertise lies in designing and securing funding for innovative, award-winning programs that have positively impacted the lives of over a million Texans. Earlier in her career, Kara spent eight years in the food and beverage industry, where she cultivated a passion to advocate for equitable food systems and policy reform. Her leadership and advocacy efforts have significantly influenced community-driven initiatives across Austin, Texas, where she currently resides and remains actively engaged.

  • Nitza Cuevas

    Program Director

    Nitza Cuevas, originally from Virginia, earned a BFA in silversmithing from Virginia Commonwealth University before moving to Austin, Texas. Her diverse career spans 15 years in the restaurant industry, farming, nonprofit food access, and mutual aid organizing. Inspired by the pandemic’s impact on the food industry, she joined Good Work Austin in November 2022, as Program Director, championing local food businesses as vital community centers. Nitza is also an active volunteer in community-based food access and policy initiatives.

  • Amanda Landcastle

    Culinary Teaching Assistant

    Amanda boasts a diverse career that spans horticulture, culinary arts, and scientific research, showcasing their adaptability and dedication across multiple fields. Prior to this role, Amanda excelled as a horticulturist at Carnivero, where they managed greenhouses, led critical projects, and launched a live sale program. 

    Amanda's culinary journey includes significant roles at Intero Restaurant, Swift Pizza Company, and Via 313 Pizzeria, where they honed their skills in fine dining and farm-to-table cuisine. In their role as Culinary Teaching Assistant at Good Work Austin, they will combine their culinary expertise with their passion for teaching. Amanda’s academic background includes dual Bachelor’s degrees in Physics and Chemistry from The College at Brockport and a Master’s degree from Purdue University, underscoring their commitment to excellence and continuous learning.
